Ok, so I missed shots of a few steps here. I was just so excited! #1, I stained the top with minwax water based stain in American Walnut color. #2, I let it dry then taped off some stripes and #3, went over the walnut color with minwax water based stain in slate gray.
#4, I added a couple coats of polycrylic (awesome stuff that forms a thin, hard coat) to the top, which protects it but also adds a little shine. I usually do this with a brush, but went with the spray this time and used a foam brush to even out any areas that needed it.
Quick tip: Polycrylic is a water based product and can be used over oil or water based products. It's much better than polyurethane, because it will not yellow over time. It goes on clear and stays clear.
